Privacy Policy

In short: Preppershelf works without an account and without your name. Your supply list lives in your browser. We set no cookies, embed no third-party services, and measure usage only anonymously within a single session. You only need an email address if you want reminders or sign-in by link.

1. Contact

For questions about data protection, you can reach us at hallo@preppershelf.ch.

2. Your Supply List

Your list is stored in your browser first (localStorage), which is why the app also works offline. As long as you use it on a single device, this data never leaves that device.

To sync across devices we additionally store the list on our server. It is identified by a randomly generated key that you receive when creating the list. The server only holds a hash of that key — we do not store the key itself. This means we cannot link your list to a person. It also means anyone who knows the key can see the list, so keep it safe.

You decide what you record. We recommend not entering anything beyond food items and quantities.

3. Email Address (optional)

You may link an email address to your list. This is optional and serves two purposes:

  • Sign-in by link: so you can get back to your list if you lose your key.
  • Expiry reminders: a weekly note when supplies are about to expire — only if you switched this on.

We use the address for these purposes only, never pass it on, and send no advertising. You can unsubscribe from reminders at any time via the link at the end of every reminder email or in the app under “Your Account”. On request we delete the address entirely — a short message to hallo@preppershelf.ch is enough.

4. Anonymous Usage Measurement

To understand which features get used, we collect lean, self-hosted statistics. No third-party analytics service is involved. We record:

  • a random identifier valid only for the current browser session
  • the page visited, the type of event, and time spent
  • the selected language and whether the device is a mobile one

We explicitly do not record your email address, your key, the contents of your list, or your IP address. The identifier ends with the session — we do not recognise you on a later visit and build no profiles.

After 180 days at the latest, this individual data is deleted automatically. Only anonymous daily totals remain, such as “this many page views on this day”. They allow no conclusions about individuals.

5. Server Logs

As with any web server, our host records technically necessary access data including the IP address. These logs serve secure operation and troubleshooting, are not combined with the data described above, and are deleted after a short period.

6. No Cookies, No Third-Party Services

Preppershelf sets no cookies. We embed no analytics services, ad networks, social media widgets or external fonts — even the typefaces are served from our own server. Loading the site therefore creates no connection to any third party.

We use your browser’s storage for your list, your settings and the session identifier described above. That data stays on your device and can be cleared at any time through your browser settings.

7. Hosting

The website and its data are operated by a Swiss provider (Kreativmedia) on servers in Switzerland. Reminder emails are sent through the same provider.

8. Your Rights

You have the right to access your data, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict processing, and to receive your data in a common format. Any consent you have given can be withdrawn at any time with effect for the future.

Please contact hallo@preppershelf.ch. Note that because we cannot link your list to a person, we need your key or the linked email address to answer a request about it. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC); persons in the EU have this right with their competent supervisory authority.

9. Changes

We update this policy when the app’s functionality changes. The version published here is the applicable one.
